Project Location: Grand Saline, TX
Completion Date: Mid-December
GSM Industrial partnered with a Texas-based client to replace an aging condensate tank with a custom ASME-compliant vessel during a planned shutdown. Condensate tanks play a vital role in collecting and storing condensed steam from industrial processes, promoting water and energy efficiency. GSM’s scope of work included precision fabrication, insulation, and rigorous quality control to deliver a turnkey solution tailored to the client’s needs.
This project posed several technical and logistical challenges, including:
Nozzle and connection tolerances needed to be exact to ensure a seamless installation during the tight shutdown schedule.
The tank had to meet strict ASME code requirements and pass radiographic testing (RT) on the first attempt.
The project required 4 inches of mineral wool insulation and a removable manway cover, adding complexity to the fabrication process.
GSM Industrial addressed these challenges with industry-leading techniques:
GSM introduced fit-up hold points to verify nozzle and connection alignments before welding, ensuring precision at every stage.
GSM’s welders followed approved welding processes, producing full penetration welds that passed RT and hydrostatic testing on the first attempt.
By collaborating with trusted subcontractors, GSM completed insulation at its facility, providing a comprehensive solution and minimizing disruption for the client.
